After All This Time

It’s been a busy week around here for us…Father’s Day on Sunday, our fourth anniversary was Tuesday, and tomorrow James will be 6mo old! It seems like we’re settling into a new rhythm every week…and I’m honestly loving it.

We had an amazing time celebrating John’s first Father’s Day over the weekend! His best friend since grade school came up with his new girlfriend and we had such a good time hanging out at the house, and then finished off the evening at the shooting range!

James does surprisingly well at the range. He’s not the biggest fan of the ear protection, but once you get him distracted, he totally forgets about them. The rear cargo area of the Suburban makes for the perfect place to play, since we can open the glass on the rear hatch and let him hang out, or close it up and turn on the AC if needed. With a few toys (or tools out of the toolbox!), he’s in baby heaven and good to go!

After Jon and Trinity took off on Sunday morning, John’s parents came up to celebrate Father’s Day, too. Naturally, we headed back to the range – but not before a quick stop off at the local cafe for breakfast. We didn’t spend much time at the range this time, but John and his dad had a great time shooting the muzzleloader…and finding blackberries at the end of the 200yd range.

He’s a little trooper, I’m tellin’ ya. He just likes to be involved…he doesn’t really care what we’re up to, or where we are, he just wants to hang out and be included. I can’t say that I’m sad about that.

After we got home, though, the trooper gave up. We got home around 3pm, and up to that point he had about two 20min naps for the whole day…not really ideal. But it does make for some fairly adorable photo-ops.

Considering that our anniversary was Tuesday, we haven’t had much of a chance to celebrate, although you could say that the trunk picnic that we had at the park last weekend was a good start. Maybe next weekend we’ll go out for a nice dinner or something on one of our gift cards, but my mom is coming down for a visit this weekend, so we’ll probably be hanging close to the house. But that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy a few wedding pictures…

It’s hard to believe it’s been four years already since we said “I do.” We’ve been together 5 years now, and only known each other 6 years! Even so, there are still times that we forget that the other person didn’t experience stuff with us while growing up. We’ve gone from a couple of crazy kids working ridiculous hours at our respective jobs, through several difference phases along the way, and now here we are – homeowners, literally the oldest of souls, and parents. Ha!

Speaking of parenthood…when did my sweet, tiny baby boy turn into this half-grown, near-toddling, 9mo old kid? He crawls to me when he sees me (or when he bonks his head after toppling over), and loves to crawl over to the edge of the kitchen when daddy gets home from work! And sometimes in the middle of the night when he wakes up he likes to crawl over and try to wake daddy up, because apparently dad is more fun pre-dawn than mommy is! What can I say? I’m a night owl, not a morning person.

Oh, and we’re also working pretty hard on the bottom front teeth, so here’s hoping those pop through soon so he gets some relief!

Did you do anything special for Father’s Day? Or maybe an anniversary in these strangest of times? What did you do?
